It is just a regional dish. I can’t see how blue crabs could be transported very far considering that they have to be kept alive. Ever heard of a cooking show? Do you own a TV?

I am surprised that people even know what I am talking about. best So we’re stupid you are an IDIOT. Maryland Blue Claw crabs are by far some of the tastiest crustaceans on earth. you can only get to that deliciousness with your bare hands. average blue crab weighs about .3 lbs and yields about 2.25 OUNCES of meat... and that's if you're good at it. might sound a bit snobby, but you have to appreciate the "finer things".

Do you own a TV? just have to say... this thread is getting to be FUN. if you're planning a crab boil with MD blueclaws... they have to be nearby. you're not getting live crabs outside about a 50-60 mile radius of say baltimore or DC. or you're getting them overnight on ice. you'd be NUTS to try to have a crab boil if you're in a landlocked state. www.marylandbluecrabexpress.com/?kw%5Bkeyword%5D=&gclid=CjwKCAjwlrqHBhByEiwAnLmYUI2H1msV4oQVUgQGMLIAb2e8JP7xR_ozuCHploSUNP0wUcgcn2vwFBoC6joQAvD_BwENOTE: i NEVER would have gotten this bitchy if not provoked by someone talking out their ASS!

I realize that boil has become a term used for steaming, especially in the South where southern boil is a thing. In Maryland, we always distinguished that crabs should be steamed rather than boiled.

"crab boil" is that combo of herbs & spices that go on those crabs... or IN the water the crabs are cooked in. a "crab boil" is a conglomeration of food all cooked in a BIG pot. can include some veggies... like corn on the cob and whole potatoes. lots of seafood... crabs, crawfish, clams, mussels. it's a communal meal.

I devoured everything except the sausage

Here is South Carolina they call that low country boil which typically includes shrimp, king crab legs, crawdads, mussels, potatoes, and corn on the cob. In Maryland, blue crabs are cooked via steam. Old Bay is what I am used to. Some people like J.O. Spice. The restaurants typically use J.O. I feel like Old Bay is more iconic though.

another food item getting close to not being worth the effort... pasta/tomato sauce. now i can take canned plum tomatoes, some tomato paste, etc and come up with a very nice sauce (i can't say gravy, cuz i'm not italian), but i'm cooking for ONE most times. i know spaghetti sauce freezes, but finding freezer space is hard to do. so i'm working my way thru the higher end jarred stuff. just tried Tom Coliccio's marinara... nice, very fresh tasting. have tried Rao's... worth the price. nymag.com/strategist/article/best-jarred-tomato-sauce.html
