What are some things you have tried or thought about trying but realize the time, money and/or effort was NOT worth the effort?

For me, at this point in my life, I will say gardening. I have tried to plant a garden some years. And, even tried doing more potted plants. But, the truth is, i don't want to put that much time and effort to grown a couple of green peppers or tomatoes that i can buy for a few dollars. Maybe I will feel differently when I retire, but right now, no thanks.

Eggs smell wonderful, especially while frying in fresh bacon grease.
Then heat up a couple of sausage in the same pan and add a nice chewy, lightly buttered bagel.
Breakfast tomorrow...Yum !

I like to make my version of an Egg Mcmuffin. Nicely toasted crisp buttered English muffin. Topped with an over easy egg, cheese and ham. Then some diced tomato and fresh basil and liberal salt and pepper. YUM

As for gardening, I did it for a few years because DD wanted to garden and had interest. By the time I bought a wagon, fertilizer , assorted tools, starter plants, seeds, fencing and new hose to water it, probably spent a couple $100 to yield about $10 worth of produce! For me, not cost efficient!
