In past times, hotels were the epitomy of luxury and comfort. Your room was swept, dusted, cleaned daily. Fresh linens every day etc. And, probably a few hotels still have all of those services. And, it does seem a bit silly to change the sheets every day. So, I can see where that was wasteful. However, now it's not even like a hotel, it's more like a very short term rental. You move in for a couple of days and there is nothing done other than tossing you few towels.

We stay for two weeks when we go to Kauai
They do a quick clean on Wednesday then another one on Saturday
Sheets get changed
Carpet gets vacuumed
Fresh towels
I’m not used to having a maid service
So I clean a lot myself
Another small thing
I love ice
Freezer has an ice maker but it takes a while to get enough ice for Larry and I
If you call housekeeping
They bring you a bag of ice

You move in for a couple of days and there is nothing done other than tossing you few towels. That's why I rent. Extra clean sheets, towels, and blankets on hand. Extra or different pillows and a washer and dryer (most places) are nice to have too. I can wash things if there's a spill or only bring one bathing suit towel (can't stand putting on a wet bathing suit) and pack lighter. Plus I love cooking for myself so a well equipped kitchen helps. |

Sometimes you have to stay in a hotel. You can't always find what you're looking for where you're going so I'm glad there are options now. I much prefer someone's private pool with the family to sharing with other hotel guests.
