I come from a large family so mine are below. There were many but I'll start with these:
Mom would always say "I'd rather have too much food on the table than not enough because you can't make leftovers with not enough".
Dad would always say "Save what you can so you you'll have something when the hard times come because they always come"

dad's philosophy was to try new things. especially when it came to food. you absolutely, positively could NOT refuse to try new food. you couldn't say you didn't like something if you had never tasted it. EX: i wasn't crazy about shrimp as a kid, but if that's what dinner was... well, that's what you ate. i have a sil (almost 70) who carries on like a 6 year old about how she "hates sweet potatoes... beets... yet has never taster either one.

From Dad: Don't sweat the petty stuff (yes, I know that LOTS of people give that advice... but it's good advice! And he's the first one that gave it to me)

Makes no sense specifics please. what food smelled so bad it made you puke? if it was rotten then that made perfect sense. most children can easily manage a puke if they just don't wanna eat something bad enough. |

As a child I never ate sauerkraut or stuffed peppers until you actually sampled these 2 food items, you had no grounds to form an opinion. you can say you don't like the way it looks/smells and do not wish to taste it, but until you actually put some in your muth, chew (if needed) and swallow... no useful info to form opinion around. |
