Do you think the U.S. has too many holidays?

When I was working I loved them, the more the merrier cause it was a day off with pay. But when looking at the calendar yes, there are way too may non Federal holidays.

from the start of a new school year to pretty much Christmas break, a school calendar is loaded with official holidays and time off. district I worked in always had an early dismissal (at noon) on the day before a holiday. in September, there would be "back-to-school"... one day for evening visits and 2 days with early dismissal.
October had Columbus Day. November was holiday-ridden... veteran's day and 2 days for the NJ teachers' convention. then not much more than a week after that Thanksgiving rolled around... early out on that Wednesday. always a few half days around end of each marking period.
a little OT, but would be curious to see/hear how schools that run 12 months a year deal with their schedule.

Doesn't matter to me, I work through most of them now anyway.
