I cannot post this on my main board because of a ban on race discussions. I have been to this Chick-fil-A many times. Do you think that this kid made an honest mistake or purposely used a racial slur as alleged by the complainant? “‘IT WAS DEVASTATING’: When Chick-fil-A customer Marquise Vanzego got his food at the La Plata, MD location, he says a worker had written "monkeys" instead of his name. Vanzego tells me it was a reminder that racism is still alive. Vanzego tells me he'd ordered in the drive-thru, but he had placed the order face-to-face with a worker who was standing outside. Vanzego says the store owner later apologized and told him the worker wouldn't be fired, because the worker was a minor and said he'd misheard the name. Vanzego says he wants the worker to be fired, and has now hired an attorney and is considering filing a federal lawsuit against Chick-fil-A for discrimination. Thanks for posting this here Ray, In reading it, it hard to say. The customers name was Marquise Vanzego, which if said with a heavy accent, could have been hard to understand. Marquise, Monkeys.. it's a stretch but I guess it is possible the kid misunderstood the name. Should he be fired? No, not if it was a first offense but I do think he should be suspended with a reprimand. As for the customer, hiring a lawyer and suing Chick-fil-A?? That sound like someone just looking to make some easy money know they will more than likely settle our of court. How devastated can you be by someone calling you a name? Whenever someone starts a lawsuit over something like that I wonder did the employee even really write it or did the customer?

Sounds like another hoax. I would believe it a lot more if the guy hadn't sued. Doing that makes the whole thing look set up.

Albeit a careless mistake. The DC-area accent among the black population can be hard to understand and it is a fast-paced, noisy place. Marquees and monkeys are not a huge stretch. He should have stopped for a second and thought there was no way that he heard it correctly. The man loses some credibility by taking it to the media with dramatic statements such as “This takes us back 50 years” and taking the opportunity to sue.

Yes, when you immediately want to sue that makes me wonder. I mean even if it was deliberate this guy acts like he was physically injured. Too much of a drama queen for me.
