Nope! On his third voyage to the Pacific, British explorer James Cook sailed to what is now known as the Hawaiian Islands. During his visit, he was hosted by the then Hawaii Islands’ ruler, King Kamehameha. In honor of the Earl of Sandwich, who was a supporter of Cook’s voyages, Cook named the islands the Sandwich Islands.
