what's your preference?
i've always liked semi-sweet chocolate... the only chips i would use in homemade CCCs.
i know Hershey makes good chocolate products... not super high-end, froo froo things. my late-great FIL always had candy at his house... those Hershey miniature bars. he would pick out all the special dark ones for me, cuz he knew i liked them. when H started making the minis ALL in dark chocolate, i'd get a bag of them at Christmas and for my birthday.
while growing up, we didn't have elaborate b-day parties. always a "homemade" cake. my grandmother taught us how to "doctor up" box mixes... milk/cream instead of water for one thing. if it was my turn to bake you a cake, you'd get a CHOCOLATE cake with chocolate buttercream frosting... mocha frosting, maybe.
i enjoy a little piece of GOOD white chocolate from time to time... not cocoa solids, but nice from time to time.
anything labelled "chocolaty" doesn't even contain enough cocoa to be considered chocolate at all.
the danger of chocolate for pets/dogs is well known but totally depends on the size of the dog, form of chocolate and how much. had a rottie (maybe 6-7 months old at the time) eat all but 2 of the leftover snack-size candy bars from halloween... reese's cups, milky ways, kitkats, etc. i immediately called vet. was told to what to watch for and warned of possible/potential unpleasantness from either/both ends. the pup never skipped a beat but i made sure the chocolate was totally out of reach from then on.
