did you ever have one of these?? thenewswheel.com/the-dav-tags-story-miniature-license-plates-for-your-keychain/have no idea why this entered my brain today, but i remember having ones from PA. way before i was old enough for even a learner's permit. guess i always thought they came with the actual plates. how old were you when you got your driver's license? because of when my birthday fell, i was the oldest kid in my class from K thru 12... except for the "dummies" that "flunked" a grade. in PA, i'm pretty sure you hadda be 16 to get permit. you hadda have "physical"... to assure you could see and didn't have seizures. only rich kids did "driver's ed". my dad taught each of us to drive. i got my license on the first try. what did you learn to drive on? automatic? manual? have you ever been in a "major" car accident? did you cause it? my old reliable 16 yo Hyundai got rear-ended as i st at a dead stop waiting to go safely make a turn. i never saw it coming and have been told that was a good thing. on 1/1/20... car had a KBB value of almost $300. was declared totaled... almost 250,000 mile and one rear wheel perpendicular to the other... valued changed to almost $3500. injuries... bruised up pretty bad, but nothing broken. really SORE for weeks.

My older brother had one from a gift shop while on vacation, they had all 50 states on a rack.
Got my drivers license at 16 but didn't really drive till I was 17, family rules.
I got broad sided in my first car, a decent 68 mustang with only 58,000 miles at the time.
Totalled it, but I was unhurt.

NEVER got car to just drive around. he bought a brand new vw beetle in 1970... only about $1200. ETA: he would randomly get his oil checked... he'd pick one of us to go check oil and add oil as needed.
one of his rules was that you had to know how to change a tire. you had to physically change those tires. oh, learned to drive in a 6 cylinder Dodge Dart, automatic transmission, power steering & regular brakes.

When I was a kid I rarely drove the family cars, mom and dad's.
I saved up to buy my first car, that mustang, when I was a senior in high school.
It was hot rodded and probably not a good car for a kid, but I never crashed it.
I got hit while at an intersection, by a pregnant woman eating ice cream and not watching where she was going.
