don't know if it still happens but the used to be a big "fair" in Kutztown, PA. a nice day/road-trip. good (though over-priced) food. lots of crafts. lots of farmy stuff. i remember an exhibit on how to slaughter a pig. there was a little garage-type building, all window on side facing the stands and wired for sound. they did EVERY part of the process!! EVERY part! i seem to remember then rolling down a curtain/shade and muting/silencing sound for the brief time animal was dying. they were really big on humane treatment. during that brief period, my young sil (maybe 10 at the time) quickly made her way right up to that window for a front row seat.

my grandfather would probably have scrapple for breakfast 2-3 times a week and i've always liked it. best breakfast sandwich... after pork roll (Taylor ham), egg and cheese on kaiser roll... is scrapple, egg (slightly runny, over easy) and cheese on kaiser. Habbersett's makes the best scrapple... except when you can get freshly made stuff. we always took a few of those blue ice pack things in a backpack to keep out purchases as cool as possible.
