usually, when i come to a new board, i post something like this. i like to cook/eat. wish someone else would clean up after me. i appreciate quality ingredients and recognize that some people don't
everybody has had at least 1 food fail in their life, right. if you over cook a whole pot of pasta, there's only one thing to do... toss it and start over. even the most expensive pasta wouldn't be a major loss.
my dad was a pretty good cook. he was a fan of the PBS cooking shows...before cable, before internet, before food network. these shows were pretty much only on weekends... julia, jeff, graham, jacque, etc. one night, he says... let's cook THAT for sunday. Beef Wellington!! big $$ filet mignon baked in pastry crust. no problem, right! i was in HS... maybe in college by then. it looked fabulous going into oven and even fabulouser coming out. we all sat down for sunday dinner and dad LITERALLY couldn't cut thru the crust!! we had to almost chisel the crust off. luckily that big $$ hunka beef was perfectly medium rare, but i think that was when my brother invented the phrase & action of ROFLMO!
so what was your biggest food fail?

The very first time I cooked for my husband when we got married I screwed up minute rice. It said add a teaspoon of salt and I read tablespoon. Needless to say it was awful. I have improved greatly at cooking since then.

I learned that cooking bacon straight on the grill will set your grill on fire!

@happycamper , not laughing AT you, but with you! but messing up MINUTE rice!?! i once set spaghetti on FIRE! there are several reasons for a big pot to cook pasta. one of the big ones is to keep you from trying to cook angel hair for 1- servings in a sauce pan where dry pasta sticks way up outta the pot. saw some TV sheff cook dry pasta (linguine, spaghetti, angel-hair, etc) in big skillet. water in large skillet with plenty of salt. put dried pasta in cold water, bring to boil, put in lod and let sit??? the time is something i just missed?? have seen a few people on TV cook small pasta (elbows, small shells, etc.) a "no watch" way. sauce pan, well salted water, bring to boil. put in uncooked, dry pasta, give a stir, bring back to rapid boil for 1-2 minutes. put lid on, push pot to back burner and wait 6-7 minutes.

If you think making biscuits out of the can is cooking you're the best cook I know. Oh and the way you put cheese on those store bought crackers...yum.
