If you oppose Juneteenth it just means you have common sense. I don't oppose a holiday honoring the end of slavery... but... A: Make it when something actually happened (like a law being signed or the last slave is ACTUALLY freed, et cetera... no some random day when some guy entered a state and said "Oh, by the way, three years ago, Lincoln declared slavery over in states he had no control over." B: Give the holiday a proper name. "Juneteenth"? Who came up with that idiotic name? How about "Emancipation Day" or "Freedom Day" or "Equality Day" or "Liberty Day"... You know... something that expresses SOMETHING about why it's a holiday. "Juneteenth" just sounds like they couldn't figure out what "teenth" day to have a pointless holiday on. C: The 13th Amendment, adopted on December 18, 1865, officially abolished slavery... and the last slaves in New Jersey weren't freed until this happened. Kind of blowing up the whole "June 19th, 1865 is when slavery ended" false narrative. D: There's also this: "If we simply go by the dates on which the Tribes ratified these treaties, slavery in the continental United States came to an end as a legal institution on June 14, 1866, when the Creek Tribe agreed to abandon African-American slavery. The was, somewhat ironically, the day after Congress approved the Fourteenth Amendment." [ SOURCE]... also blowing up the June 19th date. I agree 100 percent and couldn't have said it any better!
