Do you think flan is having trouble finding a job despite being qualified? Is it because she's not a Spring Chicken any longer? There is ageism too. So, before you say "Whataboutism", I agree with you there are definitely stereotypes, racism and so forth at play here. But, you really are not going to change that through the law. We can only ensure equal rights, we cannot ensure equal outcomes. And those who hire, they can come up with OTHER reasons why they didn't hire a certain candidate. i don't know that employers have to say why they picked a certain candidate for a job, do they? no doubt age and experience are NOT kind to us non-spring-chickens. especially when it comes to school jobs. schools want to hire people right out of college so they can start them on step ONE of their pay scale. when i was right out of college, had a school administrator actually tell me that they were hoping to hire a guy... more guys teaching elementary was THE thing way back when. imagine if anyone said something like that today!!!! i always thought racist meant someone thought they were superior to you (or you were inferior to them) because of the color of their/your skin. |
